Imagine that you are the HR manager for a retail store. Your store sells clothing, shoes,
handbags, linens, etc. The company recently had its worst quarter, and you want to improve
employee performance through sales of the merchandise and through offering excellent
customer service. The employees are less motivated, due to the recent negative media attention
the company has been getting about its earnings. You want to implement a new performance
management system, modify the employees’ current behavior, and link compensation directly to
performance.
Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you: 1. Create a job description for a retail sales
associate, which includes the most significant components necessary to describe the job both
internally and externally. 2. Create an organizational behavior modification (OBM) plan to define
four (4) key behaviors that are required for successful job performance as a retail sales
associate. Suggest the significant ways that your plan will benefit the organization. 3. Specify two
(2) ways that you would measure whether current employees exhibit the key job performance
behaviors. Propose two (2) methods that you could use to inform employees of the new
performance standards. 4. Outline a plan with two (2) methods of providing feedback to
employees. Include the frequency with which the feedback will be provided. Propose two (2)
actions company leaders should take to reinforce positive employee behaviors. 5. Examine at
least three (3) key legal and ethical issues that could potentially impact the performance
management system. Support your response with specific examples of the identified issues’
possible effects on the performance management system. 6. Use at least four (4) quality
academic (peer-reviewed) resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do
not qualify as academic resources.

In the retail store that in which I work as an HR manager clothes are sold along with
shoes, handbags, linens, etc. Recently my company had its worst quarter and being the HR
manager I have asked by the upper management to improve the performances of the retail
store employees on an immediate basis so that the sales and merchandise of the store can be
improved and good customers can be retained along with attracting new customers. When I
got into the process of assessing the employee performance in the retail store I was annoyed
and yet amazed to find out how the employees are less motivated due to the negative media
attention the company has been getting about its earnings. I gradually realized, putting aside
my annoyance, that being the HR manager of the retail store my job is encourage and
motivate the employees instead of rebuking them without solving the basic problems. Hence,
I primarily thought of installing an effective performance management system that can fit to
the environment and work culture of my retail store. I need the establishment of a
performance management system in order to modify the employee’s current behaviors, and to
link compensation directly to the performance.
Firstly, for making the performance management system effective I need to create a
job description for a retail sales associate in the following manner:
Job Description
Our Retail Sales Associates are in the best position to deliver the company’s retail promise to
our customers and hence, this job role is immensely important. As a Retail Sales Associate,
as an employee you will have to hone your professional sales techniques and learn all about
the company’s sales strategies so that an effective and positive relationship can be found
between the company and its customers.
It must be noted that as a Retail Sales Associate you need to have a positive attitude and a
communicative nature so that customers feel at ease to ask for any help while shopping in our
