4. Reactivated 16 February 1996 at Fort Stewart, Georgia, following reflagging from the 24th Infantry Division.

6. Participated in Bosnia (SFOR 8 & 9) from 2000–2001 supporting NATO peace enforcement.

7. Deployed to Kuwait and Iraq (2003) for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)—supported the March to Baghdad.

8. Redesignated as the Army’s first modular CAB in 2004.

9. Returned to Iraq in 2005 for OIF III, flying 80,000+ hours across 26,000 missions.

10. Deployed again during the 2007 Surge (OIF V)—executed 250+ air assaults and 5,700 MEDEVACs.

4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment History

Fourth Battalion, Third Aviation Regiment was originally constituted in the Regular Army on April 23, 1957 as the 3rd Aviation Company and assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division. Officially activated on July 1, 1957 at Fort Benning, Georgia, it was reorganized and redesignated twice before moving to Franconia, Germany in June 1964 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Aviation Battalion.
