Who are the various personnel who participate in the courtroom? How does each role affect
and impact shaping procedural law(s)? How does each role affect and impact shaping
substantive law(s)? What changes would you recommend to improve the role of the various
personnel who have a direct affect in shaping laws relating to the criminal justice system?
Who are the various personnel who participate in the courtroom?
Some of the different types of people that work in the court room are the, the Judge,
Witness’s, Law Clerk, Court Reporter, Jury, the U.S Attorney or the Federal Prosecutor, The
defendant, Defense Lawyer, and the U.S. Marshall or Bailiff.
How does each role affect and impact shaping procedural law(s)?
Each role impacts the way that the court process is ran. The Judge makes the Final decisions,
The witness tells what they saw, the law clerk Assist judges with research and drafting of
opinions, the court reporter keeps a word for word record of what was said in the court room.
The Jury listens to the evidence that was given and then makes a decision whether or not
there is cause to believe a crime was committed. The U.S Attorney or the Federal Prosecutor
tries a criminal case on the side of the government. The Defendant is the person who
“committed” the crime and the defense lawyer is the person who defends him or her. The U.S
Marshall or Bailiff is the security for the court room.
How does each role affect and impact shaping substantive law(s)?
Each role plays a part in the checks and balances system for the court room. It has to be made
so that each person has a “check” so that every thing is done according to procedure.
What changes would you recommend to improve the role of the various personnel who have
a direct affect in shaping laws relating to the criminal justice system?
I do not think that I would make any changes to improve the roles.

There are several individuals who work within the courtroom. A few of the roles within a
court room include the judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, court liaison, court room
assistance, the typist and Sheriff’s officers. Each role plays a large part with ensuring that
every person gets a fair trail. Whether it is magistrate court, state court or superior court each
level and each individual person involved with each level impact the procedural law. The
