ASSIGNMENT 1: COMBATING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY 2
Combating juvenile delinquency can be accomplished through a variety of elements.
Juvenile programs exist within our communities and are in place to reduce delinquency in
juveniles. Many sociological theories of causation have been developed to account for deviant behavior in
juveniles that can shape your community’s public policy for delinquency prevention. I would
create a juvenile prevention program titled Success for Kids in order for an adolescent to have
somewhere positive to go instead of being in the community committing crimes. Prevention
efforts that are in place could help to improve juvenile delinquency within my community.
Many programs are currently enforced within my community to reduce juvenile
delinquency. One main program is The Pace Center for Girls that is a “not-for-profit 501(c) 3
corporation that provides a non-residential delinquency prevention program in locations state
wide, targeting the unique needs of females 12 to 18 who are identified as dependent, truant,
runaway, delinquent, or in need of academic skills” (The Pace Center for Girls, 2013). The goal
of this prevention program is to provide the girls with a nurturing and safe environment and help
the girls to avoid school withdrawal, juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, substance abuse and
welfare dependency (The Pace Center for Girls, 2013). The Pace program was developed to
provide them with specific services such as “academic education, individualized attention, a
gender-specific life management curriculum (SPIRITED GIRLS®), therapeutic support services,
parental involvement, student volunteer service projects and transition follow-up services” (The
Pace Center for Girls, 2013). Once each girl completes the program, “PACE continues to
