The Bhopal Incident:
On 2 December1984, a pesticide factory owned by an American multinational - the Union Carbide Corporation leaked
a large amount of poisonous gas into the air surrounding a small and impoverished town called Bhopal, India. The
immediate death toll has been estimated to be around 7,000 people, and the death toll from long-term health
problems now stands at 25,000 and a further 25,000 people in the slums around the factory continue to be
poisoned by the chemicals that have been left behind.
25 years have passed from the time those hours of darkness of fright and fatality in Bhopal,
which saw a shade of poisonous gases blow up out of a defective reservoir in an insect killer
plant and without a sound reach into the homes of inactive citizens. Even though no
administrative add up of losses has still not been completed, estimates based on hospital and
treatment proceedings demonstrate so as to about 20,000 citizens died and as regards 5.7 lakh
suffered physical injury and harms, this is by far the world's most horrible industrialized tragedy
always.
People who in took the extremely poisonous and deadly concoction in those hours of darkness
had suffered a horrifying demise with numerous organ breakdown. Those who are still surviving
have been suffering numerous diseases for 25 years.
In the early morning of 3rd December 1984 a tank which contained 43 tones of MIC. The MIC
overheated and due to this the MIC gas mixtures were released which took no time to spread all
