Global Cyber-Crime: Challenges, Impacts, and Strategies for Effective LawEnforcementWhat is cyber-crime? How does cyber-crime impact the criminal justice system on a globallevel? How can we better improve the approach in which criminal justiceagencies combatcyber-crime on a global scale?Cyber-Crimes are crimes that are committed over the internet. These are very popular withtoday’s new technology. A lot of the crimes that are committed have to do with identity theftand information theft. If you buy things over the internet, people are able to gain access toyour card information and then can use that information to make purchases for themselves. Insome cases, people are able to get you to send money to them through western union or mailbecause you think you are buying something from that person. Other types of crimes arecomputer and program hacking. Someone could hack your face-book or pay-pal account andgain access to account and personal information that you have provided on there. To improvecyber-crimes, police need to stay ahead of technology and use the technology to theiradvantage. I think they should have people that are specific to cyber-crime. A lot of the cybercrime that is already known about comes from China. Technology needs to advance further inorder to monitor websites and to track cases of known cyber crime. This going to protectpeople in the future because everything is going to become electronic and everything that iselectronic now such as debit cards and personal information should be monitored. This iswhy there are programs that monitor your social security numbers.Response 2Cyber crime is criminal activity involving computer technology. Some cyber-crimes includefinancial fraud, identity theft, harassment/bullying, intimidation, child enticement, and othersexual crimes. Cyber-crime impacts the criminal justice system on a global level by enablingcriminals from all over the world to access accounts and other information in variouscountries. One of the biggest crimes includes financial crimes, and they can occur variousdifferent ways. A criminal in another country can accessaccount information by actuallyspeaking with a person and obtaining their account information, or by never speaking to aperson and accessing their account electronically. On a bigger scale, globally-cyber-crime is difficult to detect and especially punish. Becausecrime and punishment is so different in various countries, it is difficult to find consistencywith punishing such crimes. If a cyber-criminal is caught, it is difficult to obtain evidenceunless the entire computer system can be obtained.
