The Great Gatsby: Synthesis paper
In F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", In the first half of the novel, the
reader is introduced to a number of characters such as Nick Carraway, Tom Buchanan,
Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, Myrtle Wilson, George Wilson and Jay Gatsby each of
them having their own goals and traits. We will examine whether the characters in "The
Great Gatsby1
' are more static or dynamic, rounded or flat and whether they serve as
the protagonist or the antagonist.
Most of the characters in this novel are static. Jordan Baker represents a rather
static character since her behaviour doesn't change throughout the first half of the story.
Tom Buchanan is another static character because he tends to stay with his opinionated
personality. He is portrayed as a typical rich man who cheats on his wife continuously.
Nick Carraway, on the other hand, is a perfect example of a dynamic character.
Throughout the novel, Nick changes his opinion of other characters in the story. George
and Myrtle Wilson are also dynamic characters because, throughout the story, they
change their opinion about wealthy people. Throughout the story, Daisy proves that she
is a flat character because she only wants to marry the wealthy and doesn't have an
opinion about who she wants to be with. Jay Gatsby is a typical example of a round
character since he is full of life and is a complex individual. He has personalities.
backgrounds, love, desires and motivations with many sides to them.
