What is the origin of the Salute? | It became a way of showing respect in early American history. When a citizen wanted to approach a public official they had to raise their right hand to show that they didn’t have a weapon. Then it went on to knights raising their visors with their right hand to greet their friends. |

Do persons meeting the flag detail salute the flag? | No. Once the flag has been folded (cocked hat), it is treated as a cased Color and not saluted by persons meeting the flag detail. The flag will be treated with the utmost dignity and respect but not be rendered any sort of honors. |
