Assessment of
The Nature of Cheating
by
Business Students
at
Rocky University
Conduct a statistical analysis to assess the prevalence of cheating among business students at Rocky
University. Based on a survey of 90 students, analyze the proportions of students involved in various
types of academic dishonesty, including copying content from the Internet, copying answers on exams,
and collaborating on individual projects. Develop 95% confidence intervals for these proportions for both
male and female students, and overall. Additionally, conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the
proportion of business students at Rocky University involved in cheating is different from the proportion
at other institutions. Based on your analysis, provide recommendations to the dean on strategies to reduce
cheating. Your response should be at least 1,500 words in length.

Introduction:
To assess the nature of cheating by business students in their activities related to academic work
a survey was conducted at Rocky University. 90 students were selected at random and asked
them the following questions.
Did you copy any content from Internet to complete your academic work?
Did you copy anything from others on an Exam to get better grade?
Did you collaborate with anybody to complete Individual Project/s?
Response of all the above questions was taken in the form of either “YES” or “NO”.
Among the 90 students sampled, 39 (43%) were males and 51 (57%) were females.
The collected data was tabulated using Excel and stored for statistical analysis. To answer the
following questions of the dean of student affairs in Rocky University this data need to be
analyzed.
What are the estimated values of the proportions of committing each type of cheating category
and their confidence limits?
What is the estimated value of the proportion of committing some type of cheating and its
confidence limits?
Is the overall proportion of cheating is less than or more than that of all business students
elsewhere?
Knowing these facts, dean can have a broad idea about these cheating patterns and device some
strategies to minimize them. That is the main objective of this study.
