The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a governmental agency belonging to
the United States Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal
investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). As an
intelligence-driven and a threat-focused national security organization with both
intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities, the mission of the FBI is to protect and
defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and
enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal
justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners.
In Organizational Design, the Administrative Services Division is responsible
for the development and implementation of human resources (HR) programs and services
necessary to support the mission of the FBI, to include: recruitment and selection;
internal placement of employees; compensation; position management; performance
management; HR policy development; executive development and selection; health and
safety; employee assistance; and employee benefits. (The FBI-careers, 2012)
There are many diverse opportunities within the Administrative Services
Division, including work in the following areas: Executive Development and Selection
Program Section: responsible for ensuring that all selection processes employed by FBI
career boards are conducted in a fair and equitable manner. Human Resources
Management Section: The mission is to develop, implement, and manage the FBI’s
recruitment, staffing, pay administration, position classification, and position
management systems. Personnel Assistance Section: Responsible for providing
personnel benefits; recognition awards; as well as safety/health resources and services to
all FBI employees. Useful Educational Backgrounds: Human Resources Management;
