High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane ends

Interstate Highway

This sign indicates the route number of the highway which also denotes the direction and state name. It connects two or more states. Interstate signs help drivers navigate when traveling across state lines.

stick to the right side of the road

The vehicle must be kept to the right side of the road. The Keep Right sign is typically posted in areas where a divided median begins, or in construction areas.

This temporary warning sign alerts motorists of obstructions or restrictions in the road ahead. It indicates that there is road work ahead, cautioning road users to slow down.

This random checkpoint sign alerts motorists of sobriety checkpoint where motorists are checked for signs of intoxication or impairment.

Timed Signals

The sign indicates that a signal is set for 25 miles per hour.

The sign warns drivers of a change in direction or narrowing of the road. This sign is found mostly outside of a sharp curve or on approaches to a narrow bridge.

This sign can be found at the start of one-way streets and ramps which prohibits drivers from entering a one-way roadway where traffic is moving in the opposite direction. The WRONG WAY sign may accompany the DO NOT ENTER sign. If you see one or both of these signs, drive to the side and stop.

The sign forbids a cyclist from entering a roadway wherever this sign is posted. A ‘No Bicycles’ sign is typically found on high-speed roadways.

No Parking

Motorists cannot park their vehicles whenever this sign is installed.

No Pedestrian Crossing

The sign prohibits pedestrians from crossing the street.

US Route Sign 40

U.S. Route 40 a.k.a. the Main Street of America is a major east–west United States Highway traveling across the United States from the Mountain States to the Mid-Atlantic States.

County Route Sign

County highway markers are usually a yellow-on-blue pentagon. It tells you the name of the county road that you are on. These types of roads are usually older and less maintained and, therefore, are less safe than other US highways. So, it is advisable to stay cautious while travelling on a county road.

Interstate Highway Exit

The freeway/expressway exit sign tells you the exit number and/or the name of the main roadway that the highway off-ramp will be connecting to. Most freeway's exit signs have exit numbers. Before 2002, California did not use exit numbering system.

The sign is a diamond-shaped marking which means that the lane is reserved for certain purposes or certain vehicles such as buses or car-pool vehicles during rush hour traffic.

The sign means that the road is closed, and vehicles should not drive past this sign. Take a detour whenever you see this sign posted.

Motorists are advised to approach the intersection with extra caution. The main road curves to the left and a driver preparing to enter the main road from the right may not be able to see you from around the curve.

No Parking Loading Zone

A No Parking Loading Zone Sign is a helpful aid for the protection of the health and safety of personnel.

T Intersection, road ends straight ahead

This intersection traffic sign also called the three-way intersection indicates there is no forward movement. The traffic must either turn right or left. A T intersection usually accompanies a stop or yield sign.

Mile Markers

Milepost markers are placed each mile along the edge of the roadway from one end of the state to the other. Zero always starts at south or west border where a route begins.​

A Four-Way Stop sign informs motorists that all entrances to an intersection are controlled by stop signs.

Single Broken Yellow Line

A single, broken yellow centerline shows the center of a two-way, two-lane road. Passing is permitted on either side under safe conditions. When passing, the driver must use the lane belonging to oncoming traffic.​

Double Solid Yellow Line

The double yellow line shows the center of a two-way road. Neither stream of traffic is allowed to cross these lines.

Solid Yellow and Broken Yellow Centerline

Solid Yellow and Broken Yellow Centerline shows the center of a two-way roadway. Passing is allowed if the broken yellow line is on your side.​

This sign warns motorists of schools and school crossings. School zones have a speed limit you must observe. Slow down and be ready to stop.​

Active Work Zone Traffic When Flashing

A white light is attached to this sign and will flash only when workers are present. The sign is placed at the beginning of an active work zone where construction, maintenance or utility workers are on the roadway.​

End of Active Work Zone

The sign is placed at the end of an active work zone where construction, maintenance, or utility workers are on the roadway.​

Slow down, road work ahead

This sign informs you there is road work ahead and also cautions you to slow down.

Workers Ahead

Workers Ahead is one of the work zone road signs.​

No Parking Tow Away Zone

This is a useful tool to help protect the health and safety of staff, and is not a substitute for necessary protective measures for lessening or eliminating hazards.​

Exit Only Highway Sign

Whenever an Exit Only sign is given on a lane the lane below the sign will not continue through the interchange.

Highway Guide Sign

All Highway guide signs are green with white letters. There is usually one advance sign which is followed by another advance sign. The third sign is posted at the exit.​

Loose Gravel

The surface of the road is covered with loose gravel. It is suggested that the driver goes slow enough to keep complete control of his vehicle. Also, to not apply brakes suddenly or make sharp turns as this may cause a skid.​

Highway Intersection Ahead

The road the driver is traveling on intersects a highway ahead. It is suggested to slow down look to the right and to the left for other traffic, be prepared to stop and yield to crossing traffic.​

The Cross Traffic sign alerts you to slow down your vehicle and watch out for cross traffic.

Island Ahead

The sign indicates traffic is permitted to pass on either side of a traffic island or an obstruction.​

The DIP sign indicates a depression in the road ahead low place up ahead in on the road. Slow down whenever you see this sign posted. An advisory speed sign usually accompanies the DIP sign.

Watch for Ice on Bridges

The Watch for Ice on Bridges sign warns a driver that ice may form on the bridge even if the rest of the road is not covered in ice or snow. Whenever you see this sign posted, slow down.​

Right turns are prohibited when the red light is on at an intersection where this sign is posted. Wait for the green light before making the turn.​

Left Lane Ends

The sign means that the left lane on roadway will end ahead.

Lane Ends Merge Left

Lane Ends Merge Left informs the driver that one of the lanes on a multi-lane roadway will end ahead.​

Weave Area

The Weave Area traffic sign is used to warn that the driver will be merging with another roadway as another traffic is exiting and crossing his path.

No Passing Zone

The driver may not pass cars ahead of the lane. Most commonly, the "no passing zone" traffic sign is installed before hills or curves where the driver cannot see far enough ahead to pass safely.

Hazardous Load Placards: Flammable

A diamond-shaped sign on a truck H means that the load on the truck is potentially dangerous (gas, explosives, etc.). Vehicles which display these signs are required to stop before crossing railroad tracks.

Many railroad crossings will also have a blue and white sign to indicate what to do if there is an emergency on or near the tracks, or if your vehicle has stalled on the tracks.

If you see this sign, be aware that you are approaching a roadway that is slick and hazardous when it is wet or raining.
