Applied behavioral science is, the scientific discipline in which the action and reaction of
human and animal behaviors are studied through observation and experimental methods, the
results are applied to real life situation to modify thoughts and behaviors. Such as the faulty
thinking in the disease of anorexia nervosas. This is a disease where the Client as a distorted
view of their body with the belief that they are overweight. They force them self to vomit after
eating, to keep from gaining weight, clearly to everyone else in reality, the person is emaciated.
Clinical Psychology is the branch or psychology that deals with mental health. Clinical
Psychology requires specialized training in the diagnosis, psychological assessment, treatment,
evaluation, and prevention, of disorders dealing with psychological, emotional,
psychophysiological and behavioral. (Clinical Psychology, n.d.) Mental health treatment is
administered through non-medicinal practices, through the application of scientific modalities,
known as theories that have already been researched, tested and proven to work. For example,
CBT, cognitive behavioral theory.
According to Davey the author of the text “Applied Psychology” There are 3 main
therapeutic approaches used in clinical psychology, Cognitive, Systemic, and Psychodynamic.
(Davey, 2011) The cognitive approach deals with the way that we think, process information,
and behave. Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT approach focuses on thoughts feelings and
behaviors. (Davey, 2011) Systemic approach is concerned with the environment in which the
