Competency Statement 3
Young infants need an adult who cares for young infants. I will
provide immense support for future abilities in self-regulations
by consistently being available. I will make sure the young
infants are comfortable. I will help calm them when they're
feeling tired.
Mobile infants begin to adopt their own strategies for coping
with emotions. I will provide materials such as mirrors so they
can begin to build a sense of self. I will observe as mobile infants
begin to explore using their senses. I will be sure to interact with
mobile infants as they explore their environment.
Toddlers grow a sense of self and feelings of independence
develop at the same time. I will help toddlers express their
emotions appropriately through words or gestures. I will be sure
each toddler feels included in all activities. I will provide
different cultural materials in the classroom so toddlers can feel
more comfortable seeing things from home.
Social
Young infants love to be held by caregivers gently. I will provide
a non-biased environment. I will continue to provide materials
that celebrate diversity in cultural groups, ages, genders, and
varied family structures. I will promote positive social
interactions that help young infants develop social competence
and need to thrive in the world.
