Analysis of personal and organizational ethics and values for the profit and nonprofitorganizationsAnalysation of OCLC:The online computer library centre (OCLC) is actually a nonprofit organization that posed thesole purpose of developing a research centre that will be immensely beneficial for achieving ofinformation regarding the international events that take place in world history. It was establishedin the year 1967. The organization received its initialization with the collaboration of the OhioCollege Library and its other member libraries for the production of WorldCat, which wasknown as the best public online catalog available in the world. The chief priority that was provided by OCLC was cataloging in the academic libraries. It isessential to mention that the base of OCLC lied in the labors and actions of catalogers work formore than 30 years. The foundation of OCLC was solely built on the shoulders of the librariansand the catalogers’ who were mostly over qualified but under paid and also under appreciated.Ethical dilemma faced by OCLC:The condition of OCLC was quite appreciable till the year 2006, but after that year, theorganization turned its back towards the librarians and the catalogers who have been workingthere for a verylongperiod of time. This decision of the OCLC was one of the most disastrousdecisions made by the organization which led to a flood of criticism that the research centre hadto face. It was accused of the unethical behaviors and not valuing the virtues and obligations thatany organization possesses towards its employees. The company was accused of unethical valuetowards the librarianship, the degree of MLS, the librarians, the catalogers and the otheremployees of the organization.

This was the only objective of the organization, to generate monetary benefitand destroy the any competition that seemed to be posing a threat to the company. It was observed that, most of the job openings werelocal and the organization was filled up byemployees who were either receiving advanced business or degrees of computer science from theUniversity of Ohio. The major cause of discontent towards the organization was that, most of thepeople that worked in the organization were either the students of computer science or thegraduates in computer science. The reason is that, computer science was such a subject of studythat was absolutely different from library science and librarians.
