BUSINESS LEVEL AND CORPORATE LEVEL STRATEGIES2AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the business-level and corporate-level strategies that areimplemented at AT&T and which ones are important for the long term. I will also analyze thecompetitive environment in which they operate, and I will determine who their strongestcompetitor is and why. Furthermore, I will discuss how fast and slow market cycles will affectmy determination of their biggest competitor. I will conclude by reviewing the analysis I havecompleted throughout the paper.The company selected for this assignment isAT&T Mobility.AT&Twas founded in1875 by Alexander Graham Bell. He was funded by two financial institutions. In the followingyear, he invented telephone and patented it. Due to the uniqueness of the telephone invention, thecompany started an elaborate strategy of becoming monopoly.AT&Tacquired WesternElectric Company and this further entrenched its position in the market. Following an antitrustlawsuit against the company by the United States government,AT&Tdivested in some areas andthis loosened its stranglehold of the telephone and related markets. According to analysts,AT&Thas wasted considerable amount of money running into billions of dollars in acquisitions andmergers that did not significantly improve its position in the market(Hitt & Ireland, 2008).AT&T Mobilityis a wholly owned subsidiary ofAT&TInc. The company has a total of107 million customers in United States and Puerto Rico. It is the largest wirelesscommunications provider by number of customers closely followed by Verizon wireless.AT&TMobility has the second largest digital coverage that cover close to 300 million people inNorth America using different wireless communication standards.
