A great number of people were involved in the creation of the book you are holding.
Our Manhattan Prep resources are based on the continuing experiences of our instructors and students. The
overall vision for this edition was rooted in the content expertise of Chris Gentry, Emily Madan, Scott Miller,
Matt Sherman, Matt Shinners, and Noah Teitelbaum, who determined what strategies to cover and how to
weave them into a cohesive whole.
Laura Damone led the effort to update this edition for the new digital format of the LSAT. Scott Miller and
Stacey Koprince served as a sounding board during this process. Dmitry Farber was both a content writer and
editor during this phase of the book’s production, and his thoughtfulness and attention to detail are evident
throughout.
Derek Frankhouser lent his deft hand to the layout of this edition. Matthew Callan coordinated the production
work. Once the manuscript was done, Laura Damone and Dmitry Farber edited and Cheryl Duckler proofread
the guide. Carly Schnur designed the covers.

14Why Study Reading Comprehension?
I already know what reading comprehension is. What can this book do for me?
We strongly suspect that you already know how to read. Not only that, but your
reading comprehension has probably been tested many times before, starting in
elementary school and continuing on through the SAT or ACT and now the LSAT.
There is a reason for this: reading comprehension exams are a great way to test an
individual’s ability to absorb, comprehend, process, and respond to written
information in a time-efficient manner. Of course, these are also skills you’ll need as
a law student and as a lawyer.
It seems to make sense, but is it really possible to accurately quantify a person’s
level of reading comprehension? Can’t we all, by looking at our own lives and
experiences, see that our own level of reading comprehension is something that
fluctuates from situation to situation?
Let’s look at a few scenarios:
