The messages understood are not whatwere conveyed. Messages often get distorted diluted or misunderstood. This happens becausecommunication has its complexities. The complexities arise from the fact that communication isan inter-play of human beings, organizations, markets and various mechanical and electronicdevices. Ensuring effectiveness of communication in everyday business life, therefore, calls forunderstandingtheprocessanddynamicsofcommunicationandmasteringtheassociatedcommunication skills. Those who master the varied skills of communicationthus operate from aposition of strength-a strength that facilitates self development, career advancement, leadershipand contribution to society. Mastering the key communication skills is indeed a sine qua non oran imperative for every manager and aspiring business leader.Communication takes place through various channels in different ways. The three main methodsof communication are oral or verbal communication, written communication and the non-verbalcommunication. Oral communication takes place by way of conversation,dialogue, discussions,meetings, speeches and presentations. Written communication is carried out through mails,circulars, memos, reports, brochures, booklets and other written presentations. Non-verbalcommunication takes place through body language-gestures, postures, facial expressions,appearance, and examples. Language constitutes the vehicle on which both oral and writtencommunication travel.
