ABSTRACT:
The main purpose of this paper is to argue the fact that terrorism as we know it today is basically
a particular type of mindset and to try and understand the psychology of terrorism, but is a tough
task since terrorist does not volunteer for psychological studies. Terrorist are motivated by many
different reasons such as a desire to be regarded as special and to be approved by members of
one’s own particular group. Other motivational factors are the desire for vengeance toward a
target group for perceived offences. The psychological impact that terrorism has caused on a
target group not only affects them, but society as a whole. Terrorism has become a major public
health concern (McDermott 2005, Sageman 2004, Magnarelli, 2003, Post, 1987).
