Elements of Globalization to Human Resource Management
Globalization can be referred as the closer ties amongst nations across the globe that has come
about as a result of the improved transportation and communication in the 21 first Century.
Globalization has been characterized by increased trade across the globe, cross border movement
of capital, labor migration patterns and its effects, information accessibility and transparency,
and finally technological spread (Banfield & Kay, 2012). When it comes to trade and business,
globalization has had profound impact on the manner in which organizations are carrying their
operations, processes and strategies due to increased diversity in culture, products services and
ideas. Diversity in culture has forced companies to cater for this diversity in terms of how they
manage their employees. As a result, emphasis on human resource management has become
increasingly important. Today, human resource management forms an integral part of
organizations, thus managers have to be well equipped on how to manage human capital while
pursing day to day operations in an environment that has become extremely competitive (Burke,
Noblet, & Coope, 2013).

Globalization has had profound impact on how firms are conducting their activities. Because of
globalization, competition has become more intense in recent years. A lot of cross border trade is
taking place. In fact, the magnitude of such trade has reached $16 Trillion from $ 1 trillion in the
1970s. Because of this, cross border movement of capital has really increased, labor migration
patterns have changed, and information and technology accessibility has increased (Debrah &
