ABSTRACT
The healthcare sector in the US has been in the spotlight for some time now regarding
economic issues that threaten to impede the entire system. This has led to an outcry especially
from the public that tends to feel the pinch the most and things keep on getting worse by each
day. There is a focus on the over 46 million Americans who are uninsured, as well as the insured
people, continue to grapple with the problem of the ever increasing and the resultant out-of-
pocket costs. The Obama Administration and the Congress are continually engaged in ways that
can subsidize health care spending, but they as well as other stakeholders need to move with
speed in order to restore some bring the sector under control.

In the ongoing conversation, the issue of the uninsured Americans and what can be done
to rectify the situation has been on the forefront. However much this might be true, it is also
significant there are also other economic issues that are equally pulling the nation to its bare feet
and which deserve to be addressed within the shortest time that can be afforded. The rising cost
of the health care in the entire nation has elicited feelings of dissatisfaction from the public. In
addition, there are many questions that have been raised about the efficiency and quality of the
current care especially in regards to the little or total lack of support for the care providers. These
providers are the ideal ones to be used by the government in understanding the care management
and disease prevention that would eventually in the most cost effective care system (Elhauge,
2010).
The care system in the United States has been found to have the best medical personnel
and facilities in the whole world. The only shortcoming is that the system is not efficient enough
and the other industrialized nations are advancing in the same sector as they have realized that it
takes more than just the world class facilities and the professional and experienced personnel to
get the system moving. The following is a look at the top economic challenges that are facing the
care systems and how they can be remedied.
Affordability/cost
There are many individuals struggling with the current health care rates but still they
cannot manage to cater for them and the entire household. There is also a heavy expenditure on
the side of the government the highest being the year 2007 in which over $2.2 trillion was spent
in the care sector, translating to about $7, 421 per person. This rate is almost as twice the rate of
