IFSM 370 Project 3: Case Study
Catacomb Networking Solution
In the context of Catacomb Networking Solution, evaluate the proposed technology solution
for increasing bandwidth, ensuring secure communication, and achieving operational
efficiency across the company's 47 offices and five metropolitan locations. Discuss the
benefits and potential challenges of implementing Gigabit Ethernet, WiMax, and Satellite
Microwave technologies. Additionally, consider how VoIP can be leveraged to reduce
communication costs. Your response should include a cost-benefit analysis comparing the
proposed technologies and a discussion of how these solutions align with Catacomb’s
business goals.
Word count requirement: 600-800 words

Requirements analysis
1. To provide increased bandwidth to 47 offices in the U.S and the main data centre.
2. Catacomb wants to ensure that all the four (4) to eight (8) Catacomb locations in the
metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City and San Diego
coordinate among themselves.
3. To ensure a reliable and secure network for accommodating its planned as well as the
unexpected growth.
4. Catacomb is not willing to spend more on telephone services as compared to present
charges, its goal is to upgrade the services while protecting against escalating costs
from its ISDN service provider.
5. Efficiency and Productivity are of paramount importance, and there is a desire to
provide capabilities and services that incorporate technology solutions to improve
customer satisfaction.
6. Additional requirement of Catacomb is to monitor and manage data and voice
services, and ensure that capacity and usage is appropriate to its business needs.
Technology solution
1) To provide increased bandwidth among all 47 offices and main data centre Catacomb
must upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet with Full duplex mode. In the full-duplex mode of
Gigabit Ethernet, there is no collision; there would be improved Internet access speed,
increased bandwidth for higher performance and the effective eradication of
blockages.
Gigabit Ethernet is an extension to the highly successful 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps
Ethernet standards. Offering a raw data rate of 1,000 Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet
