Learning Outcomes
• Demonstrate critical thinking and reflective practice while providing
individualized, culturally competent, person-centered care
• Integrate nursing theories, conceptual frameworks and evidence-based
practice while planning care of individuals
• Discuss the practice of nursing and nursing values and how they
relate to the role and scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta

Directions
The poster presentation assignment will be completed in teams of 4 to 5 learners (your instructor will
create the teams). Each team will be assigned a particular nursing theorist by their instructor. The
team will be responsible for creating a poster presentation about their assigned nursing theorist. Each
team will present their poster to the class during a 15-minute presentation. The date and time of the
presentation will be determined by the instructor. This assignment is worth 10 % of the overall
grade in the course.
1) Review Chapter 6 in our course textbook. Pay careful attention to the information on
nursing theorists.
a) Thome, S. (2024). Theoretical foundations of nursing practice. In B. J. Astle & W.
Duggleby (Eds.), Potter and Perry's Canadian fundamentals of nursing (7th ed.,
pp.73-84). Elsevier.
2) After you have been assigned to your team and nursing theorist, please access the
resources on nursing theorists from the BVC Learning Commons to learn more about your
assigned theorist. Please see the links below:

questions:
a) Who is your assigned nursing theorist and what is the name of the nursing theory? Which
category is the theory in: Practice Based? Needs Theory? Interactionist Theory? Systems
Theory? Simultaneity Theory? Describe how the nursing theorist and the theory has
contributed to nursing knowledge.
b) In your own words describe how the theory works.
