The purpose of the system unit is to keep all the computer peripherals in one place. It
contains all the components like memory, power supply, fans, adapter, processors and
drives etc.
2. List and define the primary components of the motherboard.
Answer:-
a) Processor socket:- it is the central piece of a motherboard
b) Memory slots:- these are black and white in color and are placed very close with each
other
c) Power connector:- it connect CPU with other component
d) BIOS:- it is ROM which contain startup instructions for the computer
e) Processor chip:- it is responsible for fetching, executing and decoding the program
instructions
f) Video card slot:- this slot is used for the installation of video card
g) IDE and SATA ports:- these are used to provide connectivity for the optical drives and
memory.
3. List and define the primary subunits of the CPU.
Answer:- the primary subunit of the CPU are ALU(arithmetic and logical unit) and
CU(control unit)
ALU:- it performs all the logical and arithmetic calculation or operations
CU:- it is responsible for all other operation of the CPU
4. List and describe the two major categories of software.
Answer:- two major categories of software are:-
a) System software:- it include all the software which provide basic platform for all
other software. Examples are Operating System, utility program and drivers
