BUS 610 Week 6 DQ 1 The Tipping Point Describe the “tipping point” where power turns into domination. Explain how these two dynamic forces are unavoidable. “Power is the ability to influence the behaviors of others using formal and informal means. Power can be thought of in terms of means and ends. An end is an objective or outcome and means constitute the method(s) used to achieve that outcome” (Baack, 2012). Many people believe that real power is shared and not imposed. If a person, with a Machiavellian personality, has unlimited power but does not care for other people it can cause them to engage in practices that dominate others. These kinds of people are willing to manipulate a situation or others to achieve personal gain and are more than willing to seek unsanctioned means to attain power, control, fortune and fame (Baack, 2012). The tipping point occurs when someone exerts their power for the purpose of self-interests and self-gains. These two dynamic forces seem to be unavoidable because of human nature. Power and domination seem to become distorted because of people who have hidden agendas, seriously misguided views, and a misrepresentation of authority.
