Using the virtual organization Riordan Manufacturing as a casestudy, Learning Team A will present a business continuity plan for potential threats to theRiordan information network.Riordan Manufacturing employs 550 people across three locations in the continentalUnited States and one overseas joint venture in Hangzhou, China. Furthermore, Riordan has arecognized status as a global plastic manufacturer with $46 million annual earning. All of theseaccolades are company commodities to be protected.The company’s main products are inplastic beverage containers produced at its plants in Albany, Georgia; and custom plasticproducts produced at its plant in Pontiac, Michigan. The jointventureat Hangzhou produces anddistributesplastic fan parts. Riordan Manufacturing’s research and development is placed at thecorporate headquarters In San Jose. Simultaneously, the BCP achievesthese objectiveswhile minimizing the impact onRiordan’sclients, suppliers, partners and/orconsultants. Additionally, these guidelines provide preventive procedures along with the basicstandard procedures for returning to normal operations following business disruption of anynature.JustificationDisaster recovery has always been associated with a company’s information technologysystems. This commonly includesservers, switches and data storage devices.As previouslymentioned, data is a commodity for business.Thenecessityofredundancy-whether inside thesame building or at a remote siteis self-evidentin the fact that “putting all the eggs in onebasket” rarely works out. Theeconomicrecession that hasaffected the globefor the last 10 yearscaused many corporations and small businessto eliminate the redundancies that were providedfor their data storage;the cost of maintainingthese redundanciesnegatively affected too manyprofits.
